What is Language Year?
Language Year is a blog about learning a new language, fitting in to a new world, and appreciating a new culture. I came to Sarajevo, Bosnia, in September of 2010, and have been required by my job to spend my first year here acquiring the Bosnian language. Learning a new language can be a daunting task, and Language Year is a blog meant to chronicle my experiences, and (hopefully) the experiences of others, along the path toward language acquisition.
Who is Language Year For?
Language Year is for anyone. If you are interested in following my progress in Sarajevo, or just generally interested in learning about new languages or cultures, feel free to browse the pages of this site. I hope that my experiences will be of some help to those who are in similar situations, whether at home or abroad.
What is Language Year not?
Language Year is not a blog about politics or history. It is not a soap box. I am not taking sides in any debates or arguments. Any opinions I express are only meant to advance the above mentioned themes, and not to express personal beliefs about what others should or should not do. I am not an expert on language learning or education, and my opinions should (mostly) be regarded as those of a novice trying to find his way.
Enjoy. Happy reading!
