Bosnia: Diamond in the Rough

Today, more blogging from web articles.  Today a Facebook friend recommended an article about Bosnia which touts the virtues of Bosnia as a land of hidden treasures that have not been lost to the tourism monster, which long ago turned many similar European gems into over-hyped, over-commercialized tourist traps.  What was once beautiful often becomes tainted by those whose supposed intention was only to observe, a principle often recognized in physics, and often forgotten in tourism.

Why Is Your Country Important to You?

Sarajevo's Skakavac waterfall in winter

Today we are taking a short trip to Skakavac, a waterfall about 5 miles outside of Sarajevo.  Like most European cities, Sarajevo is very densely populated near the center, but sparse around the edges.  So you don’t have to go very far to feel like you’ve made a real trek.

Thinking about what our family could do together this weekend made me think about my own experiences as a child, growing up in America.  My family took many trips on weekends over the years to try to give my sister and I an idea of the beauty and history that surrounded us.   » Read the rest of this entry «
