
Maybe I should not be writing a post about the use (or non-use) of contractions in the recent movie True Grit. A cursory search of the internet has produced several other blog and forum posts (as well as a peer-reviewed scholarly article that I need a dictionary to understand) that have also speculated on the subject. However, I did say that I would write more about the film. So here we are.

Bosnian movie poster for "True Grit"
This past week I had the opportunity to see the second film adaptation of the 1968 novel True Grit. The first, many will immediately remember, was a John Wayne film, and the second, which I saw, was nominated for 10 academy awards in 2011, taking home none. I cannot say enough good things about this movie: if you see one movie in 2011 (though it’s probably already too late for all of you in the U.S. by now), go out and see True Grit.
